Referred Pain

The Concept of Referred Pain: When people experiencing heart attack feel pain in their arm or kidney pain as being on the skin surface, this is due to the fact that visceral pain afferents/sensory fibers travel along the same pathways as somatic (body) pain fibers. Besides, the brain does not know or is not used to pains of organ origin so it interprets such pain as being from the body.
